Carol Dweck’s book is well known for having a lasting impact on many successful people around the world. I finally got around to reading her book “Mindset” and was able to dive in to understand the growth vs. fixed mindset. I wanted to summarize the main takeaways below.

A fixed mindset creates an urgency to prove yourself over and over because your qualities are set in stone. On the other hand, the growth mindset is the idea that qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts, strategies, and help from others.

Dweck believes everyone can change and grow through application and experience. What is the hallmark of this mindset? Having the passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even when things don’t go well.

Everything is about the outcome in a fixed mindset. The growth mindset allows people to value what they are doing regardless of the outcome.

Adopting the growth mindset I think unlocks great personal and professional growth to always be learning and seeking experiences that challenge you.
